Clarifying My Curls!

Clarifying My Lovely Lady Locks!
We Were Asked:
I have long (mid-back length), fine hair. I have been using Quidad for a year, but lately the front of my scalp is flaking, almost like there is a coating on my scalp. Anything you can recommend for me?

The first thing that popped into my mind when reading your question was product build up. Feeling that your scalp is coated and having light flaking is a sure sign that you need a clarifying shampoo to rid your scalp of product build up. If you have never used a clarifying shampoo, allow me to explain what the basic purpose is. A clarifying shampoo detoxifies the scalp. You can find clarifying shampoos that are safe for color treated hair and ones that are for natural hair color and condition. Tea tree oil and baking soda are common ingredients found in clarifying shampoos. A clarifying shampoo is going to rinse away environmental residue, hard-water minerals and hair product build-up. Clarifying shampoos can be labeled with either clarifying or purifying, so there is more than one name for them. However these shampoos can dry out your scalp, so we would suggest using it only once per week.

Pureology Purify Shampoo is an excellently reviewed product for ridding your scalp of unnecessary chemical build up and environmental residue. A lot of our customers say that this is an excellent shampoo to use prior to coloring your hair. Color seems to last longer and take better to your hair. Many people swear by this shampoo because of what it does for fine, limp, oily hair. This shampoo will add more volume to flat hair, while ridding the scalp of chemicals, build-up, and excess oil.

Let’s not forget about those curls! Catwalk, which is produced by Tigi has a product line entitled, “Catwalk Curls Rock”. In this product line there is a shampoo, conditioner, curl amplifier and hair spray. Let’s first discuss the shampoo.

Catwalk Curls Rock Shampoo provides your curls with 3-D formation! This shampoo allows you to define, defrizz, and detangle your locks. We know how important detangling is! Having long hair is hard enough to detangle, more the less when it is curly! All Catwalk Curls Rock products are recommended for normal hair, meaning that it isn’t too oily or too dry. The shampoo contains a light fragrance of orange berry. This is also a shampoo that you can use on a daily basis, without excess product build-up.

To complete the Catwalk Curls Rock regimen it’s suggested you use the Catwalk Curls Rock Conditioner. This is a rinse-out conditioner, however if you feel that your hair needs that extra boost of therapy you can leave it in for 5 minutes, then rinse it out. This conditioner works alongside the shampoo to define and defrizz your curls. This conditioner works great for a detangler and leaves your hair feeling moisturized and smoothed. This conditioner also has a fragrance of orange berry.

If your hair needs that extra volume boost, I would go with the Catwalk Curs Rock Curl Amplifier. It’s simply going to rock your curls! This is an amplifying cream that defines and separates curls/waves to add volume, texture, and that shimmering finishing touch. It does not leave hair feeling hard, or sticky. This amplifier does provide curls with a medium hold, defined separation, and overall voluminous curls.

In the event that you want a natural day, I’d suggest using the shampoo and conditioner with a little bit of Curls Rock Hairspray. Everyone has one of those days where they just don’t want to load their hair full of product, and that’s okay. But, to keep your hair looking vibrant and stylish all day you should use something to hold it in place and that’s hairspray. A great thing about this hairspray is that it’s not sticky and it doesn’t take a lot. It’s color-safe, and provides hair with a strong hold that is still flexible and allows for movement throughout the day. It keeps those pesky flyaway hairs in place and even has a sensual fragrance of asian pear.
