Caring for Long Hair!

7 Helpful Tips for Caring for Your Long Hair

Caring for long hair generally takes more time than caring for short hair. However, your extra time and effort can be rewarded with a beautiful head of long flowing hair. With the following seven tips, you can have the long hair of your dreams with the least amount of fussing:

Tip 1 Brush from Roots to Ends
Long hair can sometimes be greasy at the roots and dry at the ends. Make sure to brush your hair each day from the roots to the ends. This will distribute your hair’s natural oils throughout the length of your hair. If your hair is knotted or tangled, you will want to comb it first to get out the tangles. Once your hair is tangle free, then you should brush it.

Tip 2 Comb Your Hair before You Wash It
By combing your hair before you wash it, you can insure that your hair is not knotted. By doing this you can much more easily comb trough your wet hair after washing it and you will not have to risk breakage.

Tip 3 Use Conditioner
With longer hair you want to use a lot of conditioner, making sure to rub in most of the conditioner nearer to the ends of your hair. Because the ends of your hair are older, and farther from your hair follicles, they tend to get dried out. By using a liberal amount of a good conditioner you can insure they don’t dry and crack.

Tip 4 Never Brush Wet Hair
When you have longer hair you need to use a large comb or your fingers to detangle it when it is wet. You should never use a brush on your wet hair. Using a brush on wet hair can cause a lot of damage and breakage to your hair. Start detangling at the ends of your hair and work your way up to the roots for the best results.

Tip 5 Avoid Blow Dryers
By letting your hair air dry you will find that it stays in much better shape. Blowing dry your hair will inevitably dry it out and cause split-ends. Whenever possible you should let your hair air dry.

Tip 6 Don’t Braid or Ponytail Too Tight
If you choose to wear your hair in a braid or ponytail, take care to not pull your hair too tight. Pulling too tight can cause your hair to break off. Also, use a band which is designed to be safe for your hair.

Tip 7 Get a Regular Trim
Even if you plan on growing your hair very long, you still need to have a professional trim every three months or so. This will take off any split ends and prevent the damage that can cause your hair to look stringy.
